Mining and export of natural resources could contribute to reduce poverty in many developing countries. However, the extraction of commodities is often accompanied by the violation of elementary social and environmental standards. We are committed to ensuring that German companies are changing their supply chains to safeguard that basic human rights are kept and respected.
Unfortunately our popular chocolate has also a dark side, because on West African cocoa plantations poor working conditions and child labour are common. With their market power, the companies of the chocolate industry could change this situation and influence the conditions of production to achieve, through their purchasing behaviour, improved conditions in the trade chain.
