How to move closer towards sustainable leather value chains

There is no product that is “100 percent sustainable”. As the term sustainable development suggests, the concept arguably suits processes better than products, and as of today, there is no finish line to be seen in the sustainability journey.

What is considered sustainable also depends on the perceived alternatives. Those alternatives and perceptions change over time, with new learnings, best practices, visions. This text is meant to trigger debate and to assist actors in the leather industry in perceiving new alternatives. Designers can use this text as a source of information, as food for thought, and as basis for action.
