WEBINAR April 29th, 2024, 9.00 am – 10.30 am
A mid-term review on the progress of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda makes a devastating reading: Only 12 per cent of the 17 development goals are on track. Hunger, inequality and poverty in many countries have increased. In view of multiple crises and growing over-indebtedness in countries of the Global South, it is more necessary than ever for private actors to make a substantial contribution to achieving the SDGs.
SDG impact reporting has long been part of companies as well as investors' sustainability reports. However, the content and quality of these SDG reports vary substantially. While some misuse the SDGs as a marketing tool for "rainbow-washing", others employ the SDGs as a management tool for targeted investments in sustainable business activities.
In the webinar, we present the new SÜDWIND study, which provides an overview of current SDG reporting practices among companies and investors and makes recommendations on how SDG reporting should be designed to be in line with the European Union's new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) to effectively channel the much needed private investment into the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Heidi Hautala, Member of the European Parliament and founder of the European Parliament working group for Responsible Business Conduct, will start with a short input on the expectations for European companies to make a positive contribution to the UN development goals.
