Call for Proposals: International Conference “Fashioning a Just Transition”

The international conference “Fashioning a Just Transition” will take place on April 21–22, 2027, in Bonn, Germany. Organized within the framework of the Clean Clothes Campaign’s work on just transition in the fashion industry, the conference invites session proposals from activists, trade unions, academics, NGOs, youth and feminist movements, and other actors committed to social and ecological justice in fashion and related sectors.
The conference addresses the major social and environmental challenges of the global fashion industry, including exploitative labor conditions, overproduction, climate impacts, power imbalances, and shrinking civic spaces for human rights defenders. The aim is to collectively develop strategies for a socially just and ecologically sustainable transformation of the sector, while strengthening alliances and exchanging experiences across movements.
The organizers welcome interactive session proposals on topics such as:
- Labor struggles and collective bargaining
- Fast fashion and overproduction
- Climate justice and power relations
- Feminist, youth-led, or worker-led initiatives
- Financing a just transition
- Activism, political strategy, and public engagement
- Future visions for the fashion industry
- Lessons from transitions in other sectors such as agriculture, mining, or transport
- Sessions should be participatory and contribute to building a strong, inclusive movement for a just transition in fashion. Joint proposals involving different organizations, countries, or movements are especially encouraged.
Session proposals can be submitted until September 8, 2026. Selected applicants will automatically be registered for the conference. Partial reimbursement for travel and participation costs may be available where needed.
