INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: FASHIONING A JUST TRANSITION
April 21–22, 2027 | Bonn, Germany (Gustav Stresemann Institute)
The global fashion industry stands at a crossroads, with its environmental and social costs—exploitative labor, overproduction, waste, and climate impacts—demanding urgent transformation. A just transition must be fought for, requiring a focus on workers’ rights, marginalized voices, and cross-movement solidarity. This event critically assesses the status quo, learns from past struggles, and co-creates actionable strategies for a fashion industry that is ecologically sustainable and socially just, blending rigorous analysis with ideas about a shared future and plans that give cause for hope.
A few plenary presentations and some interactive and more spontaneously emerging formats are planned, but the program also strongly thrives on the session proposals submitted.

Before applying, please take a careful look at the conference call for proposals to align your idea with the requirements. The calls for proposals are explicitly open to anyone who a) can contribute in-depth knowledge or special experience in a particularly relevant field, and b) is ready to actively use this knowledge to promote a just transition of the fashion industry. Joint proposals submitted by various stakeholders (e.g., from different countries or fields, different movements, or different types of organizations or groups) are highly encouraged.
Please read the call as soon as possible, set aside some time to prepare your application, and don’t wait until the last minute before the deadline. If you have questions, we may not be able to assist you on short notice.

Um gemeinsam mehr zu erreichen, kooperieren wir mit Akteur*innen auf lokaler, europäischer und globaler Ebene, mit Gewerkschaften, Kirchen, Nichtregierungsorganisationen und Kampagnen. Wir forschen zu Themen wie Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, Frauen und Weltwirtschaft, Klimagerechtigkeit Nachhaltigkeit auf Finanzmärkten, zu Rohstoffen und Wertschöpfungsketten sowie zu Sozialstandards im Welthandel. In Deutschland verbinden wir unsere Recherchen mit entwicklungspolitischer Bildungs- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Wir sind überzeugt: Dort, wo Menschen unter den Auswirkungen des globalen Wirtschaftssystems leiden, besteht ein direkter Zusammenhang zwischen dem Reichtum einiger weniger und der Armut vieler Menschen. Hierfür sind ungerechte wirtschaftliche und politische Strukturen verantwortlich und wir wollen dazu beitragen, diese zu ändern.
